If you had to switch jobs because your old boss was so abusive you developed stomach ulcers, the last thing you’d expect is that your new boss would be… goofy.
Contains minor spoilers for My New Boss is Goofy Vol. 1
Kentaro Momose is still dealing with the mental and physical repercussions of workplace abuse when he meets his new boss, Yuusei Shirosaki. Shirosaki is a bit aloof, misses social cues, and misinterprets what people say. It results in the cutest, funniest situations that calm Momose’s nerves immediately. In fact, Shirosaki is so charming that a random stranger sitting next to him and Momose decided to apply to a job at their company just so Shirosaki could also be his boss.

So shippable!
The silliness of this manga comes from the fact Shirosaki’s goofiness often results in him and Momose seeming like a couple. He gets Momose medicine for menstrual cramps when he has a tummy ache, he poses for a picture when Momose meant to take one of a drawing, and he even randomly (and very publicly!) gives Momose a spare set of keys to his apartment so he can visit Hakuto, a cat they found together. Cute fact! Hakuto means “white peach”, and it’s written with the kanji found in each of their names (so it’s literally their ship name).

This doesn’t happen to me often, but I preferred the anime a lot more. I would even go as far as saying the way the story is formatted doesn’t work well as a manga. Each chapter is very short and starts with the same statement about Momose’s old boss. This gets very repetitive very fast. It was much more enjoyable as a show! I don’t know if I could’ve gotten through the manga if I hadn’t watched it first. Don’t get me wrong, I do love the story. It’s so simple yet so heartwarming and funny. I definitely recommend engaging with it. I just don’t think the manga is the best way to enjoy it.
Seven Seas released Volume 1 of My New Boss is Goody on April 29th, 2025. Volume 2 is coming out on August 19th, 2025.
