MomoCon Quick Guide: Know Before you Go!

With this being my fourth year, I consider myself a seasoned Momocon attendee! There are a lot of things that I’ve learned that I simply need to share with anyone planning on attending! Momocon isn’t a simple convention, there is so much to do, see, and purchase. I was more than overwhelmend my first time. So here’s the ultimate Momocon guide.

Get a locker

Last year was my first year renting a locker, and it changed the game for me. You can rent a locker daily, or for the whole weekend. The weekend rate is perfect as you’ll have access to your locker as long as the con is open. The convention is quite large so being able to store a snack, prints, or cosplay prop is an extremely helpful

Parking is your friend

Atlanta parking is a MESS! Finding parking isn’t too bad the first day or two, but the $25 parking will jump to $50 quickly, especially if a concert is happening. Instead, park directly at the GWCC. Parking is around $16 a day, though the multi-day passes are a bit more. With the multiday parking you have 24/7 access to the garage. This is helpful if you want to attend the late night panels. The daily passes however, require you to be out of the lot by 11pm. 

Take it slow and enjoy the moment

As mentioned, Momocon is huge. I highly recommend not rushing in. Get acclimated with the space, don’t rush to artist alley. You have four days of the convention, don’t let yourself get burned out. You’ll also find the more niche things if you take your time. 

Grab a Wild Bills mug! 

Okay this one isn’t essential, but it’s fun. Every year Wild Bills is at Momocon. You buy a mug once, and you can bring it back time and time again. When you buy/bring back your mug, you get unlimited refills for the day for $10. It’s a fun treat while walking around exhibition hall, and a fun souvenir!

Cosplay…or don’t you’ll fit in either way

One thing I love about momocon is that it’s equal parts cosplay and casual. I never felt pressure to cosplay at Momocon though it’s one of my favorite activities. If you do decide to cosplay remember that you don’t have to stick to just anime. This con is for gamers, comic fans, animation and more. This also means that not everyone is there to cosplay, which is often the case with strictly anime conventions.

Con food

I will forever gas up the con food at momocon. On the entry floor of the con, the GWCC has a cafeteria with a daily rotating menu. There’s also a grab and go breakfast section which also comec in handy. While a bit pricey, this is by far the best con food I’ve ever had. Unlike other cons I’ve attended, it’s nice to know there’s a trustable place to eat. It’s also super filling. There’s also food in the exhibition hall and artist alley. Of course con food is a bit pricey, but a lot of it is worth it. I’m looking at you Sugar Shane’s!!!

Know where your meetups are.

There are a LOT if cosplay meetups, and a lot of places to meet. Prepare well in advance for where your meet ups are. It can take a good 15 minutes to get from one end of the con to the other. Location also plays a big part. I remember one year there was a Helluvua Boss/Hazbin Hotel meetup outside on a hot day. So be prepared so your face paint doesn’t melt!

I cannot stress this enough, but get the Momocon app. It’s available for Android and IOS. There is a lot going on and having it handy while you’re at the con is extremely helpful. There are maps, list, and a way to customize your schedule. Utilize the resources provided.

Great, you downloaded the app! Now look at it, don’t let it rot on your phone. I’m not sure if its just me, but this year seems STACKED. It took me over 30 minutes to get through Fridays panels alone. But if I didn’t take the time to look, I would be blind to what all was being offered. Especially the super niche panels. Plan your artist alley route ahead of time with the list of artist attending. You can even build out a personal schedule so it’s not too overwhelming day of.
