Anime Resolutions for the New Year

The New Year is here thus the time for resolution specifically Anime Resolutions! If you want to add more anime to your life in 2025, use this guide!

Read an entire manga series

If you're an anime only, try branching out and reading the manga of your favorite show, or try something new. Stop by your preferred bookstore and pick up a few volumes and start off slow. Don’t feel like investing too much? Try visiting your local library. Many libraries have tons of popular series to start you off. If physical books aren’t your thing, you can also use the Viz or Shonen Jump apps to read digitally. But if you're feeling ambitious, buy a box set!

Join or start a manga book club

If you want a fun way to bond over a piece of media, start or join a manga book club! This is a great way to knock out some of the above resolutions as well! This is a great way to grow a community for the new year! You can make this a niche club where you only read one series. Or, you can read the first volume of a series together!

Watch an anime from a genre/demographic you hate

I personally am gonna branch out of my shell and try to watch a Mecha or an Isekai. Neither genre has ever appealed to me, but 2024 is a great time to go into a new world. If you think you hate Shojo, try watching a josei to shake it up! Instead of harem anime, consider a reverse harem. Get out of your comfort zone whether the change is big or small!

Cosplay

For those who don’t cosplay, this year is the perfect time to start! Cosplay is one big way to get connected with the anime community and get creative. You don't have to buy a $50 cosplay online either, start with a closet cosplay. Feel free to share on social media, or just at cons, do what makes you comfortable! If you start now, you’ll grow so much by the time December comes around.

Participate in a cosplay challenge

If you are already a cosplayer, challenge yourself by taking part in a cosplay challenge. 28 Days of Black cosplay in February, or 31 Days of Cosplay in October are popular ones. You can also do the 12 days of Christmas challenge in December, you have whole year to plan! You can also do special cosplay days like Black Fae Day or Ro'dio Roller!

Listen to an anime web series or podcast

If you aren’t watching the The Girltaku Show what are you doing! Give us a watch on our Youtube channel. After listening to us you can find more niche series as well! Listening to anime podcasts and web shows can open you up to different takes in the anime community.

Watch one new series a week/a month

One of my personal goals is to watch more anime, and re-watch the same thing every month. Watching an anime a month or a week can give you big list energy in no time. And this gives you a chance to branch out into a new genre or demographic as well.

Switch to sub/Switch to Dub

This resolution may be the hardest for some people. Try watching an anime in the opposite dub. Both sub and dub add something new to the overall story. This is a great way to open your eyes and maybe get different context on what you're watching. Plus some shows, especially comedies leek Saiki K are funnier in English.

Go on an anime self care date

The Girltaku show is all for self care so treat yourself to an anime themed self care date! Dress up in your anime themed fit, go manga shopping, and chill to some anime lofi beats! To see an example of an anime self care date, check out our self care blog post.

Watch One Piece

Yes I am pushing the agenda okay! But you’ve put it off long enough, embark on the adventure. Starting One Piece can seem like a big commitment, but who knows you may catch up before the year ends! If this is too much of a challenge for you, start of with the One Piece Live Action or manga.

Whether you make all of these anime resolutions or not, Girltaku hope you make the most of 2025! We're going into 2025 full force, so be on the lookout and follow our social media!
