Act Like You Love Me!: WEBTOON Unscrolled Review

If you love enemies-to-lovers, chaotic misunderstandings, and hilarious banter, I have the perfect WEBTOON recommendation for you! Act Like You Love Me! is a romantic comedy that takes the classic Wealthy Celebrity/CEO x Financially Struggling Female Lead trope and flips the script with a supernatural twist: a magical bunny doll! It completely flips the power dynamic, putting the guy who has everything at the mercy of a girl who wants an apology.

The Story

Between working 3 exhausting jobs to make ends meet and regularly sending money to her mom, Ji-eon’s life is a cycle of swallowing her dignity and dreaming of a better life. Enter Doyun Nam: the arrogant A-list actor who mistakes her for an assistant at her new temp job, bosses her around, and inadvertently gets her fired. Not only does she lose the job she desperately needed, but she’s also down the money from the job’s registration fee, on top of getting berated by management yet again.

Ji-eon is at her absolute breaking point. She goes home and unleashes her rage on an abandoned bunny doll, blaming Doyun for her day’s misfortunes. She shakes the doll, yelling at it like it’s him, demanding that he grovel on his knees and beg for her forgiveness.

She’s interrupted by a knock on her door.

Lo and behold, the real Doyun Nam is at her doorstep. On his knees. Begging for forgiveness (without even knowing why)! What follows is pure comedy and chaos as Ji-eon realizes she now holds total physical control over a celebrity with her little magical doll.

The Art

The physical print is beyond pretty! The color saturation is so vibrant, and the art brings the WEBTOON’s comedic beats to life with meme-worthy exaggerated reactions. It’s clean, expressive, and full of energy! Doyun looks very much like the typical polished, handsome male lead – which makes his hysterical reactions to Ji-eon’s commands even funnier. Moving from scrolling through vertical panels on my phone to turning the physical pages makes me feel like I’m reading it for the first time again. I can’t wait to collect the rest of this series in print!

The Characters

Ji-eon feels so relatable. At some point in our lives, we’ve been extremely stressed, overworked, and down to our last $30. She’s doing her best to survive! Despite the supernatural mess she finds herself in, I love that she refuses to let an arrogant celebrity push her around.

Doyun starts off giving the typical reserved, cold male-lead energy, but that image shatters with the help of the magical bunny doll. Beneath his standoffish attitude is a vulnerable side which stems from his past trauma in the entertainment industry.

Enemies-to-lovers is my favorite trope. So of course, I love that they started on the absolute worst terms possible. For Ji-eon, it was hate at first sight. Watching Doyun in a luxury apartment ad while she worked her third midnight shift at the convenience store. When she actually meets him in person, he confirms her worst assumptions by yelling at her and ordering her around without even knowing who she is!

Even though they had a disastrous start, Ji-eon can’t deny her growing attraction to him the more time they spend together (accidental or not). And Doyun quickly finds that he can’t get her out of his mind either.

A Mysterious Second Lead Appears?

At the end of Act Like You Love Me! volume 1, we’re introduced to a new character. He shows up at the convenience store at strange hours, always with dark bags under his eyes. He definitely gives off bad boy energy. I’ll leave it at that! You’ll have to find out more for yourself.

Act Like You Love Me! Final Thoughts

Webtoon Unscrolled Act Like you Love Me Girltaku Review__5

Overall, volume 1 does an amazing job of hooking you right from the start! The magical doll element brings a unique, unhinged twist to the romance genre. The accidents it causes make me laugh SO HARD. From Doyun getting forced to throw hands with the CEO of his own entertainment agency (I’m talking about Yuji Itadori-levels of left-right goodnight), to him wandering the streets at night in nothing but a robe and subsequently making headline news. There’s a lot of initial animosity from all the misunderstandings, but there’s a sweet romance gradually building underneath. It’s chaotic, hilarious, and sets up a story you won’t want to put down!
